June 1, 2023: We are thrilled to announce VIVA’s fall show will be Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap. The world’s longest running play arrives in Boulder on September 22nd.
The Mousetrap opened at St. Martin’s Theatre in London’s West End on November 25th, 1952. It ran continuously until the pandemic forced theaters to close for more than a year. But the play bounced back in May 2021 and celebrated its 70th anniversary in November 2022. To date, The Mousetrap has sold over 10 million tickets and clocked almost 29,000 performances.
Why has it been such a phenomenon? You will have to attend the play to find out! Suffice it to say that the play is a tightly-constructed murder mystery that ends in a way you won’t see coming.
We might also mention that the author of the play, Agatha Christie, is the best-selling fiction writer of all time, the most translated author in world history, and has sold over two billion books. She passed away in 1976, to the end a genteel Englishwoman who loved gardening.
The show will open at the Carsen Theater at the Dairy Center on September 22nd, with performances September 23rd and 24th, September 29th and 30th, and closes on October 1st.
We will announce auditions sometime over the summer.
